BASIC MEDIATION TRAINING
Basic Mediation Training

This skill building training provides students with the tools they need to handle difficult conversations, interpersonal conflicts, and negotiations. Basic Mediation Training is geared toward personal and professional development and is open to all community members interested in learning alternative ways to manage and resolve disputes.

Basic Mediation Training is open to community members interested in learning to manage and resolve conflict. Graduates are qualified to become certified mediators who can work in the courts as well as helping in their neighborhoods, organizations, familial disputes, local youth programs, or other interpersonal disputes in their communities and workplaces.

 

The course explores the following topics:

  • Conflict styles

  • Communications skills

  • Bias and Hot Buttons

  • Ethics

  • Difference between Interests and Issues (and their impact)

  • Agenda building

  • Brainstorming

  • Negotiations and Writing Agreements

*Payment plans or scholarships may be arranged on a case by case basis. Please inquire with the course coordinator.

A Certificate of Completion will be issued after completing Part 1 online & Part 2 in-person training.

TRAINING REQUIRED FOR SPECIFIC SITUATIONS

 

In addition to Basic Mediation Training, Common Ground Mediation offers specialized training for specific programs. These include the following:

 

  • Oregon Foreclosure Avoidance Program

  • Restorative Justice for Youth

  • Court Connected Mediation

  • Manufactured Home Park Mediation

  • Family Mediation

Because these trainings are for specific programs offered by Common Ground Mediation, they are free to qualifying mediators.

ADDITIONAL WORKSHOPS AVAILABLE TO THE COMMUNITY 

Common Ground Mediation is committed to educating citizens in skills to manage and resolve conflict. We offer a variety of interactive workshops tailored to meet the needs of the participants.

 

These workshops are interactive - not exclusively theory - and include the following:

  • The Art of Listening

  • Steps to Resolving Conflict

  • How to be a Good Neighbor

  • Revisiting Red Riding Hood: different perspectives

  • Communication and Conflict Resolution

  • Negotiation for Win-Win Solutions 

Cost varies according to length of the training and size of the participant group.
